The Service Engagement Grant program supports student, professional staff, or faculty projects that establish service engagement as a core component. Service Engagement Grant projects should support reciprocal partnerships between institutions of higher education and the community, strengthen student learning, increase the institutionalization of service-based engaged learning, and enhance the development of students, professional staff, and faculty.
Projects must focus on one of three following areas:
- The Scholarship of Engagement (SOE) – for service learning course development, service learning research, or professional service with a local community agency.
- Student Community Service (SCS) – for individual student or student group projects with the community, such as plunge experiences or national Days of Service events (ex: 9/11, MLK Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Earth Day).
- Listening to Communities Meetings (LTC) – for campus and community dialogues to develop implementation strategies for an engaged campus and community through reciprocal and sustainable partnerships. (Click here to download a suggested meeting format).
The Engaged Department Grant – Individual departments may apply for these funds to develop and/or strengthen their support for service engagement. Awardees will spend 16 months developing or strengthening support for faculty and staff efforts in and with the community, revising policies and systems to reward faculty for their engagement work, adopting sustainable department to community partnerships, and/or elevating departmental changes in such a manner to be a role model for other departments both on your own campus and on other campuses.
Enhancing Service Engagement Collaboration Grant – Institutions may apply for these funds to support the holistic implementation of service engagement through Academic and Student Affairs partnerships. Awardees will spend 16 months collaborating on the development and/or strengthening of campus-wide service engagement institutionalization efforts.
Indiana Campus Compact will select and sponsor research projects that will broadly examine the deep impact of service engagement and campus and community partnerships. Examples of research projects could include, although not limited to, the following:
- Impact of service engagement programs/activities on student persistence and completion of college and/or student retention to the state of Indiana post-graduation;
- Impact of service engagement on capacity building for nonprofits; or
- Impact of service engagement on workforce and economic development in Indiana.
Other proposed ideas are welcomed. If your abstract is selected as a project Indiana Campus Compact would like to explore further, you will be asked to submit a full proposal.
The Indiana Campus Compact Faculty Fellows program is a year-long learning community experience. Selected individuals will serve a one-year term as part of a cohort with other engaged scholars from Indiana Campus Compact member campuses. The program serves as a faculty professional development model to support the integration of service learning and community engagement into the three components of faculty development: teaching, research, and service.
